Thyrien – Hymns Of The Mortals

Releasedate: 24-01-2014; Label: Massacre Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Finnish Folk Metal formation Thyrien has been active since the year 2005. Two years later the band released a small EP and we got sight of them playing Metalorgy festival a year later. After that it has been relatively quiet around this band but anno 2014 they come with the release of their debut full length album. “Hymns of the Mortals” is out now.

After the first time listening the album it comes clear that the band has a sound that is quite stable and the songs are all in line of each other. Therefore you don’t have to expect radical variations in the album’s tracklist, but the band has kept enough of it left to give the songs a unique face nevertheless. It is all found in the details and that makes the album one you would love to listen more than once as it grows on you. The fast riffs, with its melodic parts combined with a steady drummer make the instrumental part in good balance and when vocalist Oskari comes over it the heaviness is guaranteed.

“Hymns Of The Mortals” is an album that listens easily for the metal fans and each time you put it on there is some more to find in it. A good start, that eventually came after quite some years.
