The Swedish Industrial formation Morlocks returns with an EP called “Amor, Monstra Et Horrore Profundi”. A bit over a year ago their album” Praise The Iconoclast” got out and before something new sees light the band decided to share some more music to awake curiosity.
If you have followed the band the songs on this release are not entirely new. The band released most of them on their youtube channel before. The first track, “ The S.N.A.F.U. Principle” sets the tone on its darkest tone. Maybe being closest to their last full length and full of elements that give you food for thought. Or make one dance, whatever the mindset sparks most at that point. It’s a versatile track that you can take in all directions.
On we go with “March of the Goblins”, one that brings a smile to the face for its enchanting tale combined with dark tunes and a variety of ways to drag you into them. More serious is Bathory’s “ The Lake” which is presented in two parts. A Black Metal classic turned into an extensive eclectic version that adds to the original without overtaking the brilliance of the original track. A beautiful homage that suits well in the line of the other tracks of this EP.
The last track on this release is “ Young Prisoners”, a cover of Borghesia. An interesting take on a track that has a lot of this Morlocks feel already.
If you have found Morlocks during their KMFDM tour or just stumble upon it recently, this EP gives a nice view onto the directions this band can take you. A cohesive release that dares to take you from hyperactively intense to a pitchblack darkness kind of intensity. Just know that it is always intense.
For fans that listened the band longer, you have an opportunity to gather these older tracks for your collection at last.
