Genus Ordinis Dei
Last year we spoke with the Italian formation Genus Ordinis Dei in our Christmas Advent about their release “The Beginning” and tonight we went to see how they bring all that live. We also spoke about their new single and whatever comes up next, but that will be available in the podcast next Tuesday.
The evening started with a venue that filled up right before the band entered the stage. Just in time management by the audience and nice to see the whole package being watched. The set of tonight shows a couple of tracks that our readers may have picked up on as they came from “The Beginning”. Quite a few people seem to be new to this band, however with a strong start with “Aeternus” they easily grab the attention. They have a bit different sound than the headliners but certainly complementing styles. Playing around with tempo and energy the band creates an interesting playfield to observe and with Manowar cover “Hail and King” they certainly convinced a few more. It was not the wildest show for them perhaps, as the whole evening seems rather calm in response but certainly one where a good introduction to this audience was made.
Sirenia
Sirenia was the second band of tonight. With eleven albums released there is plenty material to choose from and it seems their set was built with a wide variety of albums representing. Some of the older material as well as their last full length called “1977” got by. A remarkable moment comes in when the band plays Desireless’ “Voyage Voyage”. The stage gets filled with their touring mates bringing their luggage along. A typical end of the tour event. The band ends the set with a good energy.
Xandria
Xandria was the last formation of the night. The Germans are not too far from home and thus we are not surprised to see a bunch of German fans in the front rows. A new EP has been released about a week before this show. It’s called “Universal Tales” and has also some orchestral versions on it. We see an energetic formation that is eager to bring these songs to their fans. Also for them counts that the response is somewhat tame here tonight but it seems that people regardless.
Xandria surprises us with some nice light effects that make the band stand out and of course they also had a little surprise by the rest of the touring members waiting for them. With “Valentine”and “Ravenheart” the band brought some crowdpleasers along. A set brought with finesse.
