FX3 is a Progressive Rock formation which is founded in 2008. For their album “Spacemusic” which is out now the band took some statements while making it. ‘No Synthesizers’ and ‘No overdubs’ have been two of them and now the album is out we can hear the results of that.
According the band self they were created to celebrate Spacemusic. The ambient intro of the first song immediately hints to that. It remains quite calm, while rhythms are creating the atmosphere of building tensions with a bit of a minus on it in the fact that they did not really come to a climax. After a while it becomes a bit frustrating.
The third track may have something familiar in it for many but does not really make it more exciting either. The catchiness makes up for it though. It is a bit different than the first two tracks and that variation is exactly what the band needs in the release. In fact, they could focus a bit more onto that to keep the listeners into their subspace while listening. Highlight of the album is the track “Das Licht” which is the heaviest of all. You feel what is happening and with that little more power compared to the other tracks is comes out much stronger as a composition, while that may also be a fata morgana after listening the album more.
A remarkable release that is surely not for everyone. A certain elite will find its way to it and appreciate, but for a wide market it probably won’t work. Who cares? This music is made for the music, not for the audience.
