Hell:on – Hunt

Releasedate: 25-11-2013; Label: Ferrum
By: Sabine van Gameren

Thrash metal formation Hell:on has its origin in Ukraine. The band got their groovy influences and released their third full length album called: “Age of Oblivion” in 2012. A year later they are back with a new release called: “Hunt”.

In “Hunt” you can trust the band to have found a way to go on straight were they left with “Age of Oblivion”, basically a part two. The band does not really give you an album that is completely different but took their sound, which became so confidentially to them, to extension. What speaks for this release most are the solo’s played. It brings some more excitement while their songs rage on and on in a solid tempo. It shows some individual quality of the players and while performed by guests like Maker Pajak (Vader) or Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) you may guess it surely adds something to the sound.
Althought those additions are bringing a lot of excitement into it, it also brings you to the point that the band self lacks a bit in that direction. It needs some more spice here and there to keep you listening. The album listens easily but the danger is that you’ll lose your interest too soon, which may be their trap.
