Vaselyne is a collaboration between Dutch singer Yvette Winkler and Dutch musician and producer Frank Weyzig. The duo started their project in the spring of 2011 and now come with a full length album. “The Fire Within” is out now.
At first the album seems quite calm and atmospheric. Dreamy tunes come to you, but when listening further you’ll find a wider range into this release. Halfway the second track “Not To Be Mine” when some male vocals come in, some extra pit comes into it. Almost like you are listening to a metal album in slow-motion, but then the tension slowly turns back towards the more psychedelic side of them. However they never really take up the tempo a bit. That makes that at the end it is not an album for everyone, you have to be into it because otherwise it just drags on and on as if the destination is unknown.
Most interesting is probably the cover of Depeche Mode’s “World In My Eyes” that has surely been covered by many but this version reminds me as being an opposite of my current favourite (Sonata Arctica). The choice of the song is a smart one as the way they present it, gives a perfect summarize of what this duo wants to set down for you.
