Tragodia is a Progressive Metal formation from Italy. The band has been formed back in 1996, but have been experimenting with both music and line-up and it took them until 2007 before a full length album got released. Anno 2013 the band is ready for the release of a third full length album called “Mythmaker”.
When reading Progressive you must not be confused with the old, typical progressive sound you could expect from the most obvious names to mention. The band have mixed their sound with more modern sounds like Melodic Death. Perhaps their sound is simply not stereotypical for any of the genres they seem to be associated with. The focus us divided between the guitars, who built constructive and ongoing riffs that add a little drama to the sound and the story, brought by vocalist Luca Meloni. In a way the band reminds a little to Luca Turrili, but kept a bit away from highlights into the drama, leaving vocals more basic which in this case suits quite well. Never the guys take things too far, overdoing it.
“Mythmaker” is an album that listens easily, has great moments but as a tiny remark you could start to wonder how the band would sound when some more vocal variation was into it, making it more heavier with grunts, or would that just leave them with a stereotype again? The experiment would be worth it, the guys could really surprise with that also, but for now “Mythmaker” is a pleasant, maybe sometimes a bit safe one.
