Avatarium is a Swedish doom metal band, founded in 2013. Over the years, they have formed a solid fanbase with their doom sound with elements of progressive and occult rock. “Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead” is their sixth studio album, out now via AFM Records.

As a new fan of Avatarium, I was excited to see the release of this record. They have been around for a while and they are not afraid to go beyond the doom/progressive sound. This defines their authenticity and we see this with “Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead”. There is a dynamic and a dark tone to the album with an ever-changing pace. This creates a nice palette of rhythms and sounds ranging from fast-paced songs (Until Forever and Again) to ballads (Lovers Give a Kingdom to Each Other). In addition, we also see the band adding in piano elements and exploring the classical sound.

One highlight is the songwriting process. Jennie-Ann and Marcus have taken over the songwriting for this album, which gives it a breath of fresh air. Combined with a top-notch production and Jennie-Ann’s powerful vocals as well as the variety of melodies make “Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead” flow easily.

Avatarium has proven what it means to be sincere to its own sound while exploring the boundaries. “Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead” is definitely recommended of the lovers of doom/progressive/occult rock.
