[schema type=”review” name=”Peekaboo Primate – Misanthropical” description=”Label: Inverse Records” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-05-12″ ]Peekaboo Primate is a band from Finland. The guys have released a debut in 2011 and returns now with another full length called “Misanthropical”.
What does this band do? Well they describe it as alternative and it may be closest as description. At first we were thinking of the band For The Imperium as a reference, but a bit less of the core in there. Just a bit of crazy, not too serious or maybe more serious than you realize. The lyrics are jokingly bringing their point. The album starts saying “Hey, it’s me with a tan”. These may not be for everyone’s taste but when looking beyond that there is plenty more to enjoy. The vocals are interesting enough, plenty of variation but when they come back to more traditional singing they shine most.
The band has all instruments coming forward in their own moments to shine. Bass is adding a nice touch when stepping up, giving the whole a bit more flair. Then the guitar solo’s show that there is plenty of quality in there. The guys made sure all have a spotlight but a maybe they could think of a way to have this all come out when all being in balance at the same time as well. Then they would be mighty powerful. Something to grow for we would say.
“Misanthropical” is not an album that will be for everyone. Them serious purist should stay away. Are you likings also including bands like System of A Down and Faith No More, these guys are worth to give a try. It has been a while since we saw them live, we hope with this album they may cross our path as the album sounds promising for an energetic live experience.
