Filter is an Industrial formation from the US. Being around for quite some year, a first album dates back to 1995, there is now album number nine for the long-time fans to discover. It is called “Crazy Eyes” and it is out now.
Filter has always been a bit of a stranger and this new release is not that much different from what you heard before. The passionate words by Richard are still spitting out with a certain fierce that we got to know them from. Those words are the main parts of the passion, the music that is behind them is never very violent. Danceable, sure that it is. The songs are quite straightforward and the listener will not have much trouble in picking up its abouts. This is certainly one of the strongest points of the release.
In the first half of the album you may find yourself looking a bit for the diversity thought. The songs have the same vibe over them, but it changes with “Welcome To The Suck (Destiny Not Luck) which is slow and dark, maybe a bit more cynical than the other songs. After that you get a whole lot of variation in the songs. With a favourite to be found in “Kid Blue From The Short Bus, Drunk Bunk” for its punk atmosphere coming forward from being hiding a bit. You wouldn’t guess it, but it’s there.
“Crazy Eyes” is a bit strange and in the way you will like it. Are you adventurous or more conventional? Filter is the odd one and never ceases to surprise.
