[schema type=”review” name=”Wolfgang – Castle In The Woods” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-02-10″ ]Wolfgang is a Norwegian Hard Rock band. They had a first release in 1998, but then it got a bit quiet around them. 15 years later they decided it is time to reunite. Anno 2016 the band comes with the release “Castle In The Woods”.
The first song may bring you a bit off guard. The melody is giving you a great lead of what to expect but the lyrics are not the most outstanding right there. Yet, the band picks it up a bit when you pass that opener. The guitars are really the point of interest in this release, the band mentioned to be influenced by Thin Lizzy, a quite relevant statement when listening to the songs they present. Sometime you may hope they band puts a bit more stress to what they add from themselves though.
A song like “Child of Dragonfire” stands out for its darkness and the intensity that goes into it when listening it. More remarkable is “Arrows” which is slow and dramatic. Although wondering what would happen if they had added more vibrancy, more vividity into the song, how much vocal variance could have made this song even more dramatic, the band has created a track that sticks.
Altogether the band has given us a pleasant release, an album that listens easy and has many great riffs in there. The band can take this even further if they want to by looking into different vocal styles to make it all have a more impact even. Perhaps for a next one.
