Nergard is a Melodic Metal project from Norway. The man behind it is Andreas Nergard, who collected a whole lot of guestmusicians to participate with him. An EP came out in 2011 and two years later it was time for a debut full length release called: “Memorial For A Wish”. Anno 2015 there is a second album released. It is called: “A Bit Closer To Heaven” and it is out now.
Once again we get a long list of guest musicians being part of the release, together forming a total story. The first release really sparked our interest and so we were looking forward to this one, but when giving it is first spin we may be are a bit disappointed. Not all songs come out as strong as it could have been, the sense of the total story is gone and the songs are maybe a bit cheesy here and there. We expect perhaps a bit more uniqueness into it. The mix of musicians gives you a lot variety but we lost touch with the whole. You really need to take each song as an individual one and thus it sometimes seems like the album got turned into collectors album.
Melodic Rock fans may be interested in giving it a try, for the sake of their heroes being involved. They must not expect to find those tracks to be hanging around for long though. A bit of a disappointment unfortunately.
