The Swedish Metal formation Ghost made a fast entry into the scene many years ago. In no time they grew a dedicated fanbase for their music, currently having album number three to be released. “Meliora” is out now.

Ghost likes mystery. Who actually are the members is unknown. The looks, the image, the mystery involved with their presence is one of these ways of showing that. But the mystery is also in their music. Somehow their songs seem easy-listening, but are they really? Progressive, deep… Extended guitarparts are drawing the attention, where the comfortable voice is leading you into them. But the lyrics are not of pop song galore! There Ghost is consistent and let the theme come back into it. A classical style can be heard in their songs, but what suits these guys is that they give that a modern twist. In the production, but also in the song writing you can clearly hear a tribute to the past but simply made anno 2015.

As an album the tracklist is made quite logical. The songs are in line with each other but also as an individual track you could get the picture and feel yourself introduced to Ghost. A strong start comes with “Spirit” which introduces the atmosphere of the album so nicely. Ghastly, but then transferring into the warm welcome of “Meliora”. Remarkable is the song “Spöksonat”, a short instrumental track that forms a bit of a break in the album. After that the band returns to what came in the first half of the album.

“Meliora” is an album that shows the strength and consistency of Ghost. Those who enjoyed what the band did before will enjoy this release just as well. Perhaps this one is the most advanced one they made, showing a persistency in the concept.
