Boar – Veneficae

Boar – Veneficae

Releasedate: ; Label: Lost Pilgrim Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Finnish formation Boar founded themselves in 2009. So far they had their focus on releasing some smaller items; EP’s, splits etc. This year they are ready for the release of their first full length album. “Venificae” is out now.

The guys are having a wide variance of musical influences but you could safely post them in a psychedelic area having some Stoner around it. They embrace the raw edges in all way. Surely they don’t have the smoothest production but they choose what suited them. It does not all have to be too polished. Some of the sounds are recognizable, lacking originality but in other ways the guys break out into something that’s more of their own. Seems a bit like they are still searching for it though. The most remarkable moments in this release are found in the moments when all the madness comes together and hell breaks loose. Vocals screeching in, guitars jumping upfront just a little more raging into the climax. That’s when you will mostly enjoy “Veneficae”.

Boar is a band that will probably bring a lot of intensity live, on the album you may need to listen a bit longer before getting into it and jump over some pieces that don’t add anything new to it. Yet, a fine release that will entertain you well if you are into the genre.
