Basilisk is a Dark Metal formation from Germany. The guys are currently releasing the album “Traumland”.
“Traumland” is an album that is partly in English and partly in German. With an eye on the international market embracing English is not a bad idea but also if you look at the songs you may find these English ones come out just a little better. The vocals flow better, the voice seem to get a better match with the atmosphere the band is bringing. The dark, somewhat melancholic sound does not always benefit from the way the German words are brought. Interesting to see such a difference in them.
Furthermore the band is getting that atmosphere to be the most outstanding part of the album. When you are dragged in, you want to listen to more and that is exactly what it is supposed to do. Musically the band is not always that innovative, but the skills are up enough to enjoy what is there anyway. Maybe when the guys do get a bit more cheeky and flirt with the borders of their sound they may be finding some interesting parts of themselves in future.
“Traumland” is a fine release that will enjoy the Dark Metal fans easily. It won’t be something completely new, but has enough to offer anyway.
