Free Key Bit Chess is a Heavy Metal formation founded in 1995. The band comes from Germany and releases a new album called “Havoc”.
Where oh where have I heard this before? Well, thinking of it, pretty much each town has a band like these guys. Machine Head did it before. Throw in some bands like Prong and voilá you get this album right in front of you. While listening we try to find that one element that would send these guys apart from the various others we have seen and that seem to be quite a challenging task. Too bad we did not really find something to give them a unique face. Then let’s see what the quality of it brings. A decent production, not very daring and perhaps a bit too clean. Could have been a bit more rawer which would suit the vocals a lot, giving them some extra strength. Good, riffs flow well some melodic parts are to enjoy and the band in general takes a good balance between all.
“Havoc” is not really an exciting album, but let’s say one thing. If you like something you may want more of it and then this may exactly be what you need. Some challenges are there for the band to give a bit more excitement, so the next album we actually bother to remember the band’s name.
