Lonely Kamel is a Norwegian formation making Stoner/Blues. The band has released already three albums and now returns with album number four called: “Shit City”.
Lonely Kamel has a sound in which that blues side comes up more vividly than you might have expected. Perhaps knowing the band longer you may have found them hinting more to that 70’s psychedelic side that makes a great revive lately but with this new release the blues side seem to become a bit more upfront. Speaks for them, the experiment works out quite well as it makes them somewhat more approachable. Where the band shines most are the guitarsolo’s in the album. They take the time to put them in the spotlights and embraced with the music around it, it is obvious that all falls into place as it should be without too much effort. No twisting and turning, building up to that for long times but just there when it should be.
Of course the band did not completely break away from their traditional sound. Some typical 70’s references are kept in-tact and with the way they do it they surely kept their Lonely Kamel identity upfront. “Shit City” is an album that show a band that is not afraid to make some changes to progress and see what comes from it. A classic example of how an experiment turns out well.
