Peppino D’Agostino is a musician from Italy playing guitar in diverse styles. He arranges all himself and released an album called “Penumbra” which showcases his music.
“Penumbra” is a collaboration between classic guitar and a typical rock environment. Both have things apart and things in common and where the two embrace Peppino finds himself moving around. Good, the album is not the most accessible album. The guitarists under the readers are finding themselves more interested than those who are looking for an easy listening album. No wonder he gets described as a guitarist guitarists. That covers the load quite well.
Yet although that been said he is not a man that needs to do all himself. Several collaborations are found on this disk like for example with Sergio Assad, Gyan Riley and Maurizio Collona. Those are mentioned as his favorite composers and when listening to the man’s own compositions you can recognize his style being united with them others and obviously blending in well.
Altogether it is an album that demands some attention. It is not one made for a background music it is an album you want to listen and enjoy with care. Some great compositions will come around which highlight Peppino’s skills brilliantly.
