Releasedate: 27-06-2014; Label: The Church Within Records
By: Sabine van Gameren
The Norwegian trio behind the name Purple Hill Witch hooked up together around 2010. With their Doom music they came to a demo and an EP and now finally a debut full length album. “Purple Hill Witch” is out now.
In this very first long-player the band lays down their influences not too far from the surface. 70’s influences, like Black Sabbath but also Electric Wizard touches can be found in there. With their structures seem to been looking for a sound that has a whole lot to offer so expect a rich sound from them. The driving force in their music is found in the guitars who are really dragging you into it. With the variation brought throughout the release you will keep listening and in each replay you’ll find a little more. A discovery trip that does not end any time soon. On the vocal side the band kept it moderate and never bring out too much when it is not needed as the music itself will do enough to keep you with them.
“Purple Hill Witch” is an excellent debut album for a band like them. They show what they are up for and have no hesitation to impress. One act to add to the wish-to-see-live list.
