German Death Metal formation Lay Down Rotten is not a strange name for many of the Death Metal fans. The band has been formed about 15 years ago and released a bunch of albums since. This year a new one saw light, number eight on their list. It is called: “Deathspell Catharis”.
Good Lay Down Rotten is a settled name and with that you may have a perfect idea of their sound in case you have been seeing them before. This album is not radically different from that. It kicks in as steady as it comes, not bringing too much of it all at once, saying simply that the guys know how to bring a balanced album. Strong melodies are giving you something to hold on but you should not have to worry about not enough vehemence being left in there. When the vocals come in the whole gets its strong body of what we know the band for.
Basically, this release is not telling you much new, it simply shows a band that knows what to do and have been doing that many years now. Fans could buy this blindly and if you have not experienced these guys before it is a good bet to get the album, quality is not an issue with Lay Down Rotten.
