Blackfinger – Blackfinger

Releasedate: 31-01-2014; Label: The Church Within Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Eric Wagner has been known for his work with the band Trouble, but left about six years ago making his project Blackfinger coming alive. He took his time, but now a new album comes out with his name on it and it’s a self-titled one.

What you can expect may not be the most surprising when you are familiar with Eric’s work. You can clearly hear him into this release. A calm doom release with a great dose of melodic elements and emotions. You can hear bands like Pink Floyd back into the sound he sets down. The strengths are to be found in the fact that an experiment is never left away, you hear a quite solid guitar, not bringing to much variation within the song self, but the surprises are often to be found besides that. The vocals are a main part when it comes to that as the words are bringing you an important part of the Blackfinger experience.
This self-titled album is a pleasant one to listen. It flows easily and it is not hard to step on their atmospherical ride. You may sometimes have to wait a bit longer to get to the point but it simply gives you what you expected from Wagner.
