Gonoreas is a Swiss formation making Heavy Metal. The band is formed in 1994, but the first full length album did not come out until 2003. In ten years they have released some more material, their fourth and latest full length called “The Mask of Shame” being released just yet.
The band recently got a new vocalist and this is their first full length album with him on the vocal duties. He seems quite a solid vocalist, bringing the album to a good standard, but we have no reference to the previous vocalist available. Yet the band does not choose to let the vocals be the main part of their sound but rather let the instruments come forward too. Altogether they found a reasonable balance with that, but if you look at the whole you might wait for a bit more variation here and there. Sometimes the album tends to trail onto the same path a bit too much. It is hard to find a song that really stands out, for that reason but perhaps this album is more one you would listen to completely once in a while instead of taking the songs individually.
“The Mask of Shame” is a decent release for the band that changed their vocalist. Always gives a whole new face to the sound, so good to see it worked out for them.
