Austrian formation Dignity formed in 2006. In about two year they came with a debut, but after that it took them five years to come with the follow up. It is called “Balance of Power” and it is out now.
It does not take you long to realize the band has put a lot into it. A rich sound, loads of things going at the same time give the whole a very bombastic sound. Also it may appear a bit overdone at some point, the band keeps going and does not really built in any moment of peace which creates a feeling of it being just hyperactive without a purpose. Too chaotic for a long run. So for a next release the modesty could bring the guys a big advance.
A little plus of this release lays in the guitars. You can hear some experimenting has been with that and this speaks for the band. A little innovation to see if the cliché can be dimmed in. However the guitars are not that upfront at all times. Coming to the first point again, they could have created more time for those to step into the foreground and let them shine to have the whole benefit of it.
“Balance of Power” is not a bad release, it is an album that shows a band that is growing towards something larger but needs perhaps a critical look at for a new one to grown on.
