Last year in December the German band Eisregen has released its compilation album Krebskollektion, the first compilation since their formation in 1995. In the whole length of their career three of their albums have been banned by the German censorship (“Krebskolonie” in 1998, “Farbenfinsternis” in 2001, “Wundwasser” in 2004) and the frightful songs could not even been played live.
However, these decisions were not of much importance in the other countries. Firstly, Eisregen sings exclusively in German. Secondly, they have never got an international audience. Of course, by provocation, they had to put these forbidden titles on a compilation. If the album has been legally authorised or not, we can’t say it right now but it’s definitely an occasion to hear the classics of the band. The kings of the morbid have released material that fans will jump on. As it’s from the early albums, the aggressive horror songs are not musically exceptional; the melodies, if it can be called so, are quite basic and are there to create an atmospheric background to the texts. You should better enjoy the stories that could have been scenarios for a next Rob Zombie film. Michael Roth has a voice so evil and mischievous that you can’t forget, especially when you turn of the light. It would be wise to consider that Eisregen’s songs, like any creepy art creation, are outlets for inside violence and basically want you to have good frantic shivers!
