Releasedate: 28-11-2011; Label: Edel
By: Lara Cappelli
Tarja Turunen is a Finnish soprano who originally started as the singer of the metal band Nightwish. It’s been a while now since she started her solo career, releasing quite some albums over the past years. “In Concert: Live at Sibelius Hall“ is the live registration of her new musical project’s performance.
The conception at the basis of this release stands in the balance among Tarja’s soprano vocals, the guitars, the organ and the percussions. From the first couple of tracks though, it’s easy to guess what is the real protagonist of the project: Tarja and her voice naturally leaps over the rest and might easily get the majority of the listener’s attention. Some typical songs of the Finnish culture as well as some popular Christmas songs compose the album. Originality isn’t surely the strong point of the album, considered that Tarja has already released a Christmas album in the past, which featured some of the songs present in this latest release. Although the ultimate conception of the album might risk to get lost along the way if decontextualized from the Christmas atmosphere, the songs manage to convey the magic feeling this celebration is all about. This album is one of those releases you should make sure to keep playing in your stereo during Christmas nights.
