Fornost Arnor is a Progressive Metal formation from UK. Formed in 2005 the band got their debut out in 2009. Anno 2011 the band returns with the album “The Death Of A Rose”.
First thing you notice when listening to the album is that the band has a modern approach. Instead of sticking around the success factors of the genre the band is clearly searching for little elements to make it original and surprising and they succeeded with that. The basis is very recognizable, but the band brings these with decent quality and add a little bit of their own to it. Acoustic guitar and some female vocals are surprising, not there for the whole record but quite at the beginning of the album which may be a bit confusing if you did not know the band before. With some nice solo’s at the album the band have made a collection of good compositions that fit in line as well. A little remark to make on that, some transitions in parts with vehemence and the calmer parts may feel a little abrupt. A point to consider for a future release.
“The Death Of A Rose” is a nice album which will keep fans of bands like Opeth entertained throughout.
