Ein Astronaut is a German act making pop music. The latest release of this formation is “Fire” and its out now.
A little taste of what the debut full length of Ein Austronaut will bring, that’s the promise to start with. Musically there is this typical pop rock sound, brought to you in a quite simplistic, minimalistic way. Not too much extra’s added, just straight in the face. “Fire” is the first song of this EP. It comes with soft vocals, tenderly going over the atmospheric instrumental part. It is not the most catchy song, therefore we have to listen to the La Roux cover song “Bulletproof” which perhaps missed a bit of energy compared to the original version. It is still hard to imagine how this will work out in a club, it is quite hold back, in general, throughout the whole EP and not that much of a party setting at all. “Dead Souls” would probably not make you think of such a song at all. Let’s say Joy Division wins it for the same reason as La Roux. The version of Ein Astronaut lacks on power and fails to make as much of a deep impression as the Brits do.
Sound all a bit like an artist that have not found its own sound yet, making an own interpretation of the songs that are on his own Ipod playlist, but making it sound like a local teenage band starting out at a band contest. The concept seems fine, just the actual product out of it doesn’t.
