Intronaut is the brainchild of drummer Danny Walker (Jesu, Phobia, Uphill Battle) and Dunable (Anubis Rising) when they were looking for a new project. The group was quickly completed when Joe Lester and leon Del Muerte joined the band and after a short period of time they had self released their demo “Null”. The band saw some changes and when Dave Timnick joined on guitars they signed with Century Media, to release their Prehistoricisms only in the USA.
The band released their album “Valley of Smoke” and showcase their approach to psychedelic music with many time changes and captivation hooks. There is room for melody but there is also devastating brutality to be found on their tracks. They balance their music. For one of the tracks they teamed up with non less then Justin Chancellor from Tool to work on a song where they have two bassist and two drummers. “Valley of Smoke” is produced by the acclaimed Josh Newell (Jane’s Addiction). Their progressive music have stoner and sludge riffs that build different layers in the soundscape they present you. Little bits of jazzy sounds and progrock pieces. While there is also the hardcore approach to the singing style. Songs that I liked the most are “Past Tense” and “Core Relations”. In the end you need to give this CD some spins to hear all what it has got to offer. Listen again and you will hear new elements. Nice album from Intronaut.
