Label: Origin of Species Releasedate: 2020
DarWin is a songwriter Who collected a bunch of musicians around for the release of his music. The debutalbum “Origin Of Species” came out a few years ago and now he is back with a brand new album called “DarWin 2: A Frozen War”.
The release is a progressive concept album, one that follows up the previous one, but is one on its own also. Names like Simon Phillips (The Who, Toto, Derek Sherinian), Matt Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani), Billy Sheehan, Guthrie Govan (Sons Of Apollo), Derek Sherinian and Greg Howe are part of the release. It brings us a rich piece of music that is full of variation. Some pieces are more quiet and some are more wild but the building towards it is always smooth. At some point it has a bit of pop feeling which tells you there is much to hear.
Opener “Nightmare of My Dreams” is most impressive to us. It is a powerful track that tells you right away what the album is about. The end if the album is the track “Another Year” that in many ways is the opposite as how it started.
“DarWin 2: A Frozen War” never goes beyond accessibility. It is an album that remains pleasant to listen to even if you are not too deep into Progressive music. With a bit over 30 minutes on the counter is also not a long one, giving you enough but not an overkill. Certainly interesting to look into further.
