Label: JONO Release date: 07.08.2020
Swedish melodic death metal band from Jönköping, Ravened just released their debut called “From The Depths”.
It is a very good quality metal album for a debut and a new band so as soon as I´ve heard the promo, I was immediately drawn to listen to the whole record and write something on it. The sound and the style can be defined as Mdm that Sweden is famous for; however, the band has many influences that are permeated throughout the album. The album kicks off with the beast Blackened One. Once you hear that the attitude is right and you´re in for a good ride for a total of 12 songs. All killer, no fillers indeed! The record has its groove metal moments that can be noticed on the track False Conjunction, and also some Slipknot-y moments in vocals such as on Foul Deeds and Onyx.
My favorites ended up being the self-titled track From the Depths, the main riff calls to mind a very known Slayer riff. Also the track, Golden is an absolute banger. 7-min long track Denial almost had me fooled to be an instrumental piece and in the midst of the song, the vocals kick in to my surprise. This one has a few compartments and is quite layered. I totally dig that one.
Like I said earlier, I enjoyed all 12 tracks immensely and I definitely recommend this Ravened release to the fans of Swedish melodic death metal.
