Polish rockers of Coma have set quite a name in their own country already. 50.000 sales on their last album in their home country is surely something to be proud on so the expectations for “Excess”, their third full length release, are high.
If there should be a typical reference band to give an idea it must be Seether, but Coma is more raw. For the first time the band choose to go into English lyrics and this suits them well. The songs on “Excess” are all released before, but then in their own language on the 2008 release “Hipertrofia”. The music has an international character, not only due the fact that they sing in English but would do good in many countries. The band has wonderful subdued songs as well as some more powerful, up tempo material.
Memorable songs are “Poisonous Plants”, which would do great a single for the fact that it has all what a hit song has to have, and “Silence and Fire” which comes with a intro that is very recognizable, a bit of prog rock in that song gives it the peace that sticks the song to the front row.
As bonustrack you get the punk song “F.T.P” (Fuck the Police) which seem to be a bit of a black sheep on the album, but is nevertheless a welcome touch. Perhaps it was better as it being the final song, but let’s not go on about that as there is nothing that should distract you from the fact that “Excess” is just a brilliant rock album with a shitload of potential.
