Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (most often abbreviated to OMD or O.M.D. ) are a synth-pop group whose founding members are originally from the Wirral Peninsula, England. OMD were originally assimilated in the greater new wave batch of synthesizer-based acts of the later 1970s-early 1980s. The group was founded in 1978 by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys who remained, and were perceived as, the core members. Adding sidemen Malcolm Holmes and Martin Cooper by the end of 1980, this quartet (with occasional line-up fluctuations) was the live concert lineup until 1989, when Humphreys, Cooper and Holmes all left OMD to found The Listening Pool. McCluskey then retained the OMD name and continued to record and tour as OMD with new line-ups through 1996.
“History Of Modern” is their eleventh album. This synth pop album of OMD is very melodic and definitely reminds you of the good old 80s. It sounds like OMD always did and even makes you think a little bit of A-HA. The bright music on “History Of Modern” lights your day and heart. Thirteen songs going deep down and shining from within. Like a flower flourishing OMD’s music spreads its arms as well. Embracing the world and makes it a better place. At least for the time listening. You can hear female backing vocals on sever tracks throughout the album. “Bondage Of Fate” is the touchiest song on the album, at least in my opinion. A wonderful album that spreads more than just a good mood. A definite must for all 80s synth pop fans!
