Kuma is an Italian formation that makes an interesting mix of music. As the title may suspect, it is their first full length album.
At first we were a little mislead. We often get these droning, dark and evil releases, Black Metal link without being typical Black Metal. Often with a whole lot of effects in use. We thought these guys would go a bit into that direction as the first track certainly gave that impression, but if you look at it overall the band is way more accessible. A slight sludge hint, some psychedellic, maybe but the essence of this release is not in putting it a specific corner, but by being open for whatever comes in.
Whether they are strongest in either their darkest moments or their more small and serene moments is totally up for your taste to decide.
What is a bit of a trap for these guys is that these different sides they show in their music are far apart a wide gap in between them and although you may think of them as building bridges between genres, it feels like the bridges are still open and yet to be completed, a daredevil will make the jumo and go back and forth, but it is not for all so to say.
An open spirit will love to listen to this release and let himself be taken to different places, but the majority might seek the comfort of what they know.
