Horses Blew Fire – Somnium

[schema type=”review” name=”Horses Blew Fire – Somnium” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-04-08″ ]Horses Blew Fire is a Belgian/Dutch formation that makes a blend of Alternative and Progressive Rock. They just released their second EP called “Somnium”.

Horsees Blew Fire is a band that plays with contradictions. On one side they have these very calm parts in their music. Dreamy, and mellow but they can take it up and around to very energetic parts just as well. Sometimes slowly building it up and sometimes with a more abrupt change over.

Take for example the song “For The Sun” it builds and builds until you get some very passionate screams at the end. After that the band starts with “Flamingos in Tuxedos” which has that energetic start and calms down after that. The band picks it up again and takes the time to let the guitars shine a bit more in the end of the song. Because although the band is not driving on one person to take the spotlight, there is some time to show the individual qualities of the band as well.
With these changes within they keep our attention, but we wonder how that will keep up live, are people staying with them if they take it down time after time? It requires a careful selection of the setlist we can imagine.

“Somnium” is a pretty nice EP to listen to. It has seven songs, more than most EP’s give you and you you will get a good view on what the band is doing. We are curious how they keep our attention on a longplayer, but we’ll just have to wait for that.
