Rimfrost is a Swedish formation making Black Metal. They have been around since 2002 and a debut full length saw light in 2006. Ten years later album number three is releasing. It is the self-titled “Rimfrost”.

It is thrown right at you, “As The Silver Curtain Closes” starts and opens the dark an evil world of Rimfrost. Yet it has a lot of beauty in it. The diversity and sometimes a contradiction are feeding the interest towards the release. It starts at the first song, which has a strong start and calms down at the end. Getting hungry for the rest it follows with Saga North which is a stable song, here and there a bit of catchiness, and an intense mind spinning melody. It draws you in further. Then, the third song brings you yet something different. A new level of darkness and iciness in this release.

Regardless the fact that the album offers much variety, the whole seem to fit together quite well. A red thread that is binding it all may be found in the atmosphere everything eventually leads to. We are getting the ‘Rimfrost-feeling’ with it.

The album is accessible and will have its bridges for the fans of other genres to step on and have a look at it as well. You can find the highlights in the songs “Saga North” and “Beyond The Mountains of Rime” but the whole album is worth listening to, an excellent release.
