Vredehammer is a blackened death metal band from Norway. The project started in 2009 as the studio solo project of the vocalist Per Valla but later became a band in 2013 with the help of other musicians and so Vredehammer was born! The band has released 2 full-length albums so far and the latest album “Violator” is out recently!
Although the band is relatively young, they have a solid and confident sound; this aspect attracted me from the first song “Light The Fucking Sky”. Surely, the band members have worked in various projects before but Vredehammer definitely marks the uprising of the ideas and the perspectives of the band members. The drums are sometimes “death metal” and sometimes “black metal”, the vocals are brutal and quite authentic and the guitars give the album its dark atmosphere. In this sense, “Violator” is an album that is strong and technical soundwise and productionwise.
One highlight is definitely the diversity in the genres. “Violator” may be a blackened death metal record but we see some influences from thrash and even power metal… Yes! Take a look at “Ursus”. It’s hard distinguishing which song features which genre and I think it’s also a bit useless; the styles are blended quite well in the record which shows the great potential and the authenticity of the band. On the other hand, although I liked this diversity in the record, I got the impression that the band had maybe too many ideas or melodies in mind so they didn’t know what to do with it.
“Violator” is recommended to the fans of death/black metal and especially who prefer the technical side of the genre. Get ready for some brutality!
