Prog formation Spock’s Beard has been around for quite some years now. The guys thought it about time to summarize these years in a ‘best of’ album and it is called “The First Twenty Years”.
For the fans it is not always much interesting to see a release like these. But those who did not have a whole large collection on this band may be getting a great overview of this release. Yet on this double album, that clocks over two and a half hours, there is a lot of new to discover. All songs are remastered and it comes with a DVD full of bonus material. This bonus exists out of some material that has never been released before and maybe most interesting, a registration of their concert at Progfest in 1997.
The songs found on the two discs are giving a great overview from what the band has been doing. The different line-ups and the subtle, or not so subtle differences through the years come to light and the remastering makes sure the whole comes together a bit more.
The release will keep you listening for quite a while. A long playtime and many hours of Prog ahead of you. If you want to look deeper into this band this release may be a good one to start with.
