Flowers for Bodysnatchers is a Dark Ambient project from Australia. The man behind this project is Duncan Ritchie and he made three releases under this name before coming with “Aokigahara”, which is out now.

The story of this album seems to be a bit confusing at first, looking at the titles of the tracks it may guide you to a very depressive atmosphere, but the sounds that you hear in the album are often more open and beautiful rather than haunting and grey. A different state of mind, or simply a different perception of how these come to an outing. And yet, it may not be completely surprising after all. A certain sadness comes in from a piano right at the beginning, taking you by the hand and slowly taking you through the darker area’s in the album. Is it daunting? No, it feeds some curiosity. Spark your imagination and the question you are asking yourself may be more: Am I brave enough to keep listening?
The quietness of “There Will Be Lies” can scare you or it can strengthen you. Which path do you take? I gives you choices and the choice you make determines how you feel next when “Night Heroin” passes by. Are you looking around the tree seeking if there is any doom awaiting you or are you the warrior that leaps over the field, being on guard?

Then…”A Rope To End It All”. Where are you using it for? Are you not able to stand it any longer, or do you use it to lock the gate behind you to move further? There are really two sides of the album, such a contradiction that can be reached with the same sounds. Where others make it really clear on what feeling they want to bring to you, Flowers for Bodysnatchers leaves more open for your interpretation. A strength that can give the listener so much extra hours of listening pleasure. It’s up to their imagination, but this album gives you endless opportunities.
