Zoner comes from Cyprus, it’s a onemanproject. The album “Auralsonic Navigation” is the final one of a trilogy.

Ok, at first you will have to get over the horrendous way this album is recorded. It may give the impression it was in a closet in someone’s bedroom perhaps. Can you call it oldschool, yeah maybe, or just a budget way of doing it. Such a shame because a lot of people will be cut off by it soon. Not willing to listen and the sounds are not shown in their best quality.
Musically it shifts a bit back and forth between different influences. What is to like are the various riffs that jump out, sometimes a bit oddly placed in the music, but there to be as a main attraction and that seem to work well. Vocals are interesting, at some songs they are strong, but it is not consistent through the album.
Hopefully for a next release Zoner will do itself a bit more justice. If you want that underground feeling than this may be exactly what you are looking for. It has its moments but even if you don’t want to go too shiny there is a way to get more out of it than is now. Too bad.
