Chuck Ragan is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is the guitarist and vocalist of the band Hot Water Music. Ragan has also released a variety of solo material, including a series of 7-inches on No Idea Records, a live album and three studio albums on Side One Dummy Records. Rocky Votolato is also an American singer-songwriter. Now the two of them got together to share a release.
Six tracks split amongst the two of them, each getting three to fill with his own song. All under the name of “Kindred Spirit” with a beautiful cover of a lakeside, Rocky Votolato and Chuck Ragan released a split EP. The first three tracks are Rocky Votolato’s. Starting out calm and filled with passion, the music sounds pure and true. No excessive use of effects, no fancy adding to the true sound of music. Smooth and honest Rocky Votolato guides you through his share of this split EP. Continuing with Chuck Ragan the songs are a little rougher, which is not only because of the smoky voice of Chuck Ragan. But his share of songs is also a little faster, including drums and more ups and downs in his arrangements, volume and emotion wise. Also the collaborations Chuck has on these three songs, cause the songs to sound more intense and add more depth to it. Drawing you along, the second half sure took up on speed and takes the music from a lake to the bar. A great split EP by two amazing artists. A must check-out.
