The German formation Painful makes a combination of Black and Death Metal. With album number three ready, the band is booked for the ultimate boozecruise and seems ready for world domination. “Imagines Pestis” is out now.
The band has taken their time to create this release. The concept is there, the music, the artwork. All part of the big picture that they present. The band opens rather epic, but then steps into the world of darkness, the fast paced songs that they have made are full of Death and doom. The vocals are not always as strong as you could hope for, perhaps a bit more passion would have left us more impressed. We are not quite feeling the atmosphere that the rest of the band is building to.
On a more positive not, the band has brought in diversity which makes that we are still listening with interest until the end of the track list.
It is obvious that the band knew what they wanted to put down and they partly succeeded with it coming across. Some work on these vocals and we would be convinced on a deeper level for a next album, but “Imagines Pestis” is not bad.
