Set Up To Fail – Acedia

Set Up To Fail is a Finnish formation that formed in 2010. The band makes Melodic Metal and comes now with the release of the EP “Acedia”.

The EP comes with four tracks, the first one starting a little slower than you may have expected, but slowly leads you into a more vehement environment. It is an interesting choice to open with this one, as it has such a diversity in its pace. What comes forward straight away are these melodic elements which the band can give a good shine. Running at the end it takes its sprint and that sets a good introduction for the second track “Unending War”. It is a strong track but does not come with a catchy refrain or something else that makes that one stuck in mind. Instrumentally good to listen to but perhaps for an EP in which you want to remember the band from, not one that sets us up with that.
The intro of “Sentenced To Life” is quite promising, and after that it seem to have that potential of becoming a track that we hoped to find before. It does not cover the load completely, but we have the idea that this a song that has a great outreach in a live situation where the frontman can put his stamp on it a bit more with a charismatic performance.

It closes the release with “Death From The Sky” which is a really energetic song, ready to make the moshpit go crazy. Overall the band has delivered a fine release. They show their skills of well, but for a four track release we may have hoped for that one track that becomes the themesong of Set Up To Fail. Perhaps that is left for a future release, so far we do with these four and enjoy them well anyway.
