Helfir is a Melancholic project by Luca Mazzotta who played in several bands before. In 2013 the work on his solo project started and anno 2015 we have “Still Bleeding” in our hands.
A lot of references to Doom/ Depressive acts are to be found, as said, the album is very melancholic and dark, a release that you may need to listen with a bit more attention rather than one you could play in your background.
The album has a whole lot to offer. The instrumental part is very rich. Each moment is well thought and gives you something to appreciate. This is one of these elements that demands a lot of attention. Is it a riff that draws you on, or perhaps the synths that make you listen in silence. It’s a the mix of it all. But this is also where the trap of the release is, for some it may become a bit too heavy in the end. Too much of it, no release is taking a toll of the listener.
Yet, the whole comes out as a stunning release that is dreamy and dark. It surely don’t listens that easily but is worth the effort for those who enjoy a release that has a lot of things to discover time after time.
