The Icelandic band Kontinuum makes Ambient Rock. The band formed in 2010 and two years later they came with a debut album that got them a following. Now the band is back with the second release called “Kyrr”.
In the beginning of the release you can have a bit of thought towards the Gothic side, think Sisters of Mercy influences. However listening further to the release you notice the band has put a bit diversity into it. The music goes a bit wilder and faster in tempo, mixing more with post Rock. But above all it is clear that Kontinuum manages to put down their own face as well.
Titletrack “Kyrr” is one that goes deep into your head where the band seeks some more calm and atmospheric sounds with the track “Lone” leaving the vocals behind. In other songs the vocals are more of a thing. Somewhen in English somewhen in Icelandic, but bringing you always a little extra.
None of the tracks are very catchy and neither do they stand out as individual tracks. For a release like “Kyrr” you must be willing to listen to the whole story. And the whole story you might want to lose your thoughts with. You can listen it repeatingly, feeling the darkness within these atmospherical parts taking its impact.
