Northumbria – Helluland

Northumbria – Helluland

Releasedate: ; Label: Cryo Chamber
By: Sabine van Gameren

Canadian musicians Jim Field and Dorian Williamson are the founders of Northumbria. The two make Ambient Metal. Their debut came out in 2012, anno 2015 they release the album “Helluland”.

An Ambient project like this is always interesting to hear and write about. With all the sounds and atmospherical moments it is often more the listener self that needs to find its way with it but “Helluland” is a record that seem to have a direction that is easy to talk about. It’s calm, wide of making and not coming with too much unneeded effects. It’s a pure dream world that you can transfer yourself into. Floating on a puffy cloud observing the emptiness a calm and beautiful world that knows no evil. It certainly is not a really that makes you scared of being alone out there. It gives you the serenity and peace of no interruption. An escape of the hectic world we live in nowadays. The drones aren’t hostile, they are teddybear in your arms that give you the confidence to explore what’s going on.

Each one will find its way with the music of Northumbria. Each will have his own experience, but it can’t be anything else than an extremely beautiful one.
