The Canadian musician named Matthew Barber comes from a musical family. Himself he has been actively releasing as well. “Big Romance” is album number eight for him.
The music Matthew makes is to be found in the pop corner, but the label is much wider than that. The catchiness is there, it isn’t a happy pop album, but the lyrics stick so fast that you are surprising yourself with it. As the album title may suspect there is a romantic touch to it. “Hold Me” brings you warm feelings and the words will bring a certain recognition to the majority of the listeners. Then you are soon finding that country twist in it as well. Not too obvious but bringing a certain atmospheric layer to it. And this atmosphere is one of the key elements to the sound that Matthew brings. He chooses words that are applicable to anyone’s life and brought with a warm voice it is not too much of an effort to win the hearts of the listener.
“Big Romance” is a quite relaxed album that you would love listening to on a sultry Sunday afternoon. Whether that is in the garden after a sunny day or in company of a hot chocolate in the dark rainy autumn days is irrelevant. It’s a diverse release that will speak to many.
