En Esch, born near Frankfurt, is a studied orchestra percussionist, drummer, programmer, producer, guitarist and singer. He was a member of the German industrial rock group, KMFDM, from 1985 to 1999, during which time he contributed to ten studio albums and more than a dozen singles as musician, composer and producer. Lots of collaborations later, years have passed.
Now En Esch is walking solo paths again. More than a decade after his last solo release, this is his latest album called “Spänk”. Coming with fourteen tracks, this album is coming right at you. Most of the songs are in English, a couple are in German though. So for example the first song. German vocals, dark and very electronic. The second song on the album, “Hard On”, is much catchier. It sounds like a live version because you can hear some people cheering in the background. En Esch’s vocals are supported by a female vocalist. You can hear some traces of the typical style KMFDM has on their songs. En Esch created a dark album where he wanders between fast and thriving electro beats as well as dark and gloomy songs, that slowly dig deeper into your mind and soul, leaving a seed behind. “Spänk” is a very interesting album you should definitely check out.
