The American Latin Metal band Ill Niño is back on the road presenting their latest album “Till Death, La Familia”. Tonight they hit Mannheim. Along with three bands – The Snuff, Terror Universal and Xtortya – this promised to be a long night. Unfortunately there were not too many people out and about to see this event.

The night started with The Snuff. A Czech band that played nice rock music to which the audience went along and got warmed up. Along with some beer, standing at tables or nearby the bar. Watching from a distance and applauding after each song.

For the next band the audience went much closer to the stage. Gathering there, anxiously awaiting the band, screaming and shouting until Terror Universal came on stage. Terror Universal is a combo of former and present members of Ill Niño, Machine Head and Soulfly. Their debut will come early next year. So far no one knows who is behind this project. Which made the whole set even more interesting. The guys came on stage in masks and kept them on till they left. The music was somewhere between Slipknot and Combichrist. Metal meets electro mayhem. They crashed the stage for about three songs and the audience went wild. Screaming, moshing and cheering big time after each song. Too bad that their show was so short. But there will be more soon.

The last one of the support acts was Xtortya. That’s an Australian band playing something between hip hop, rock and metal. The guys were quite excited and talked a whole lot to the audience. Playing for about thirty minutes having a good time and sharing it with the audience.

Ill NinoFinally, at around 11 pm it was time for Ill Niño to come on stage. The audience was stoked. With powerful music as an intro the guys entered the stage and continued with the strong music until the very last second. Ill Niño played old and new songs. You could feel that they have been a band for almost fifteen years now. The audience sang along and the band highly appreciated it by saying thanks and welcomed everyone to the family.

Appreciated by cheering the audience celebrated each song by dancing along and singing the songs louder than the band could. It felt as if the venue was full. The Latin influence in the music – created by percussions and Spanish guitar – gave the metal music and shouting in between a religious touch, heartwarming and joyful.

The spirit of Ill Niño filled the the venue and infected the people present tonight. Playing for merely two hours Ill Niño gave their best and succeeded. It is always a pleasure seeing Ill Niño perform. So make sure to check them out while they are on the road.
