By: Sabine van Gameren
Formed in 1997 the German Melodic Death Metal band Deadlock has quite some years on counter. After six studio albums out, the band now comes with an overview of their career, a compilation album called “The Re-Arrival”.
Re-releases always need to have something interesting for the long-time fans to get them to buy it and Deadlock did this in the form of adding some previously unreleased material. Now that is always a bit tricky as often there is a reason that they were unreleased and if that reason was that it wasn’t found good enough to fit on an album before it may be that the fans would not be too pleased with it now either. Though this of course is only one of those reasons and whatever it was that withhold the band from bringing it out before, it seems that on the release of “The Re-Arrival” they seem to fit just well. The band also brought in some brand new tracks so there is plenty of interesting material to find in this release. To make all the old songs fit in line they have been re-recorded this makes that the whole listens easily and as if it was one to begin with. Naturally, you’ll hear where the band progressed and what makes Deadlock to what they are.
If you are a fan you most likely want a new album rather than an compilation, but this album has so much new or re-recorded material that it actually feels like a new album in the end. Worth for all fans to try and a great opportunity to see what they are up to if you are curious about them
