Columns is a formation from US which makes a combination of Thrash Metal, Death Metal and Grindcore. The band formed in 2003 but until this year released only some small material. 2014 is they year they come with their debut album. “Please Explode” is out now.
For a band mixing these genres together you may find them yet quite accessible. You start with “Mudfucker” which is quite in your face and yet has the catchiness. Find that with these riffs and you become in that instant party mood. Maybe the band has the GrindCore in there but they do not let reign too much. In fact, that Death/Thrash in there is giving it all its bosy. The heaviness is what gives it a little extra punch. The hyperactive part is put down a bit which makes it all easy to get into at a very first listen. What comes to notice is that the band has a consistency in their songs, but give you plenty of diversity with the sixteen tracks at this release.
“Please Explode” proves to be an excellent first release for the band. It shows their qualities well and the way they mix up the genres work for the songs. Simply an album to enjoy!
